Tour description

Visit the Stutthof Concentration Camp site and learn the tragic history of the first and longest operating Nazi concentration camp in Poland tucked away in a peaceful setting of a seaside forest.

Leaving from cruise port or your hotel, we will take a scenic countryside drive towards Stutthof, where the first concentration camp outside Germany use to operate. We will tour the camp quarters, learn about occupation of Pomerania and pay our respects at the victims’ memorial.

Walking through the battered fields of the camp site allows plenty of opportunity for reflection on despair and lack of humanity during the days of WW II.

From the overwhelming history at Stutthof we will return towards Gdansk on a sightseeing drive past the symbols of Solidarity movement. Not only a cradle of groundbreaking change in 20th century Europe, old Gdansk looks more like a colorful maze of imaginative facades as a perfect backdrop for some medieval tales. After an enjoyable introduction to the historical heart of this medieval merchant town, it is time for some free time.

Old town walking tour continues after shopping and lunch with visits to the main street at Long Market, St.Mary´s Basilica and the Town Hall building. Symbolizing the union between the city of Gdansk and the sea, the Neptune Fountain across the street is the source of the local liqueur Goldwasser legend. Outraged that the coins are thrown into the fountain, trident struck the water and smashed into tiny flakes of gold, which now adorn this great herbal liqueur.

Crossing the panoramic riverbank by the impressive Green Gate, we will leave Gdansk old town and return to cruise port or hotel.
