The Nordic cross has for long been known by the Estonians. The strong ties and not so amicable battles between theĀ Estonian VikingsĀ andĀ Scandinavian tribesĀ date back to the 13thĀ century. After all, theĀ Estonian sailing vessels were calledĀ pirate shipsĀ by the Nordic clans for a reason.
Our day starts with a comprehensiveĀ walking tourĀ in the heart of a Viking built city. During the Tallinn Old Town stroll you will learn of the fascinating stories of inhabitants of thisĀ Hanseatic pearl.
A visit to theĀ upper townĀ revealsĀ legendsĀ andĀ true stories of past powers and rules of the country. The uniquely locatedĀ Toompea HillĀ hides stunning views over the lower town and boasts of both savage Viking as well as noble past. Today,Ā center of national governmentĀ and home toĀ Prime Ministers OfficesĀ andĀ Chancellery of Chancellor of Justice.
Thereafter, we will leave the city behind and arrive a short countryside drive to the Viking Village. Explore the mysterious Viking lifestyle by learning how to throw an axe and enjoy a trebuchet experience in an authentic Viking era fortress or hone your archery skills instead.
The playground at the Viking Village is also entirely unique. It is equipped with wonderful forts, a stone-lifting mechanism, a Viking ship on āstormy seasā, a witchās hut, a log lifter, sandbox, swings and a number of other attractions for children to play and climb around on.
To end our tour at the Viking village, we will enjoy a delicious local dish of pork, sauerkrautĀ andĀ herb potatoes, fit for a wild Viking.Ā The old Estonians use to say, thatĀ beauty does not fill the tummy, but a good meal will.
Once back in Tallinn, we will tour the medieval heart of historic lower old town. This was a celebrated center of medieval trade.
The charming lower town greets us with a unique atmosphere on the Town Hall Square. Crowning over the location of a medieval market place is the impressive Town Hall building itself. These days, no longer the seat of municipality, the charming venue boasts inviting outdoor cafés and hosts seasonal festivals & fairs instead.
There nothing more satisfying than being given the opportunity to be a part of the olden times yourself.
Tour ends with a drive back to the cruise port or your hotel.
